A step closer to safe & effective perpetrator work across Europe

Spring is in full bloom, and so is our calendar of events and updates! We're thrilled to announce that registration is now open for our annual conference in Berlin. Don’t miss this chance to connect, learn, and get inspired with colleagues from across Europe and the world.

In other exciting news, we are proud to announce the 2024 WWP EN Grantees. For the second year in a row, we could offer support to our members in making their programmes more effective and safer for survivors. By combining our own funds with the support we receive from the EU, we expanded our grants to all our members, both within the EU and beyond.

With the help of our hard-working evaluators, we have awarded twelve of our members grants to improve their practice. You can read about their inspiring projects here.

This year, we are introducing an important new component to our grants - five of our grantees will go through first-ever assessments, as we prepare to launch our accreditation system for perpetrator programmes. This is a huge, and exciting step towards ensuring that programmes across Europe follow the European Standards for Perpetrator Programmes, prioritising the safety and well-being of survivors.

We are immensely happy to continue our project of aligning European perpetrator programmes with our European Standards, an effort which will improve responses to domestic violence across the region.

I look forward to discussing all of this with you at our conference in October,
Alessandra

10 years of change - Exploring next frontiers of ending domestic violence

The conference will take place on 21-23 October in Berlin and focus on how perpetrator work has changed since the organisation's founding. Together, we will lay the groundwork for an even more impactful future.

During the event, we will also take a closer look at intimate partner violence in LGBTQ+ relationships and women’s use of force against their male partners. We will explore similarities and differences to male violence in heterosexual relationships and gain a greater sensitivity to the specific needs of female clients in heterosexual relationships and LGBTQ+ clients.

It often follows the same patterns as offline violence and is associated with negative psychological and social consequences, as well as worsening quality of life and, often, physical, psychological and sexual violence. With the help of social media and smartphones, perpetrators can make their partners feel paranoid and cause a constant sense of fear. This two-day practice-based and interactive training is designed for perpetrator work professionals of all levels of experience.

A recent femicide outside an Athens police station has ignited public outrage and demands for urgent action. This painful crime marks the sixth femicide in Greece this year, with women in many other European countries facing the same life-threatening violence . There is a pressing need for significant improvements to frontline professionals’ and police training and their procedures, as well as an urgency to establish systemic cooperation together with service providers to tackle violence against women.
